I’ve written about Charlie and Ruth’s friendship with jazz vocalist Jeri Southern. This CD-R includes twelve circa 1950s live tracks. Jeri sings and plays piano, accompanied by small jazz combos. The first six recordings seem to be from the same gig. Several fade out before ending. The venues and backing bands aren’t noted. The collection ends with an announcement of Jeri’s upcoming 29 May 1957 appearance at “the Interlude Room on the Sunset Strip.”
In this Substack podcast I listen to albums and cassettes from the collection of my father, the late jazz bassist Charlie Haden. If you like what you hear, please consider subscribing. Josh Haden’s Memoire is about life, death, jazz, slowcore, and survival. The address is joshhaden.substack.com.
