The only information on the cassette reads “03/12/96 Cologne”. The recording starts with a bass solo and goes into the Charlie Parker-penned “Back Home Blues”. Charlie Haden Quartet West - Charlie, saxophonist Ernie Watts, pianist Alan Broadbent, drummer Larance Marable - were on tour in Europe, supporting their just-released CD Now Is The Hour. No venue is listed. I suspect it was the legendary Stadtgarten, on Venloer Straße 40.
Here’s a radio interview with Charlie regarding Now Is The Hour. I’ll post side two of this concert next week. Solid, Jackson.
