This cassette was recorded live at the Jazz Port Festival, Hamburg, Germany, 21 July 1994. Bill Clinton had just become U.S. president. 1994 was the year of the Northridge earthquake. Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa. Kurt Cobain died. The Channel Tunnel opened. I was 26 years old. I was preparing to record my band’s debut album, The Blue Moods Of Spain. The debut record by my sisters’ group, that dog., had recently been issued in the U.S. Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra was touring Europe. Their most recent album, Dream Keeper, had been released in 1990, when George H.W. Bush was president. Their next album, Not In Our Name, would be released in 2005, during the presidency of George W. Bush. Side one of the cassette is here. Solid, Jackson.
